Privacy Policy

CoupleTalk ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website coupletalk.co and the relationship-assessment service available on it. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have. We wrote it in plain English on purpose — because you deserve to understand what happens to your data, not just sign off on legal jargon.

1. Who We Are
CoupleTalk is a Delaware-registered company. Our service is a paid online relationship-assessment tool. Individuals can purchase a solo assessment for $19, or a couples bundle for $29 that lets two partners complete assessments and compare results. We are the "data controller" under privacy law — meaning we decide how your personal data is handled.
2. What Information We Collect
We only collect what we actually need to run the service. Here is exactly what that includes:
- Account information: Your email address and a password (stored in hashed form). If you purchase the couples bundle, your partner's email address is also collected so we can send them an invitation.
- Payment information: Your name and billing details at checkout. We do not store your card number, expiration date, or CVV on our servers. All payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS-compliant payment processor. We receive only a transaction ID and confirmation of payment from Stripe.
- Assessment answers — free-text: During your assessment, some questions invite you to write open-ended responses in your own words. We temporarily store these answers so we can generate your report. Once your report is generated, these free-text answers are permanently deleted from our systems. We do not keep them.
- Assessment answers — structured scores: Your responses to multiple-choice and scale questions are converted into numeric scores. We retain these scores for 90 days. This is the period during which you can re-take the assessment and compare your results over time (our "re-test" feature). After 90 days, the scores are also deleted unless you actively choose to renew or retake.
- Usage data: Standard technical information such as your browser type, device type, IP address, and pages visited. We use this to keep the site running smoothly and to identify technical problems.
- Communications: If you email us at hello@coupletalk.co, we keep that correspondence to respond to you and to resolve any issues.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data only for the following purposes:
- To create your account and verify your identity when you log in.
- To process your payment through Stripe and issue a receipt.
- To generate your relationship-assessment report.
- To deliver your report to you by email and make it available in your account dashboard.
- To enable the 90-day re-test feature by retaining your structured scores.
- To send you transactional emails, such as purchase confirmations, report-ready notifications, and refund confirmations. We do not send marketing emails unless you separately opt in, and we do not currently run a marketing email program.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To maintain the security and performance of our website.
- To comply with legal obligations where applicable.
4. How Long We Keep Your Data
- Free-text assessment answers: Deleted immediately and permanently after your report is generated — typically within minutes of completion.
- Structured assessment scores: Retained for 90 days from the date you complete your assessment, then deleted automatically.
- Account and email data: Retained for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will remove your account data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to keep certain records (for example, transaction records for tax purposes, which we keep for seven years as required by US law).
- Payment records: Stripe retains payment data according to their own privacy policy. We retain only the transaction ID and payment confirmation for our financial records.
- Support emails: Kept for up to two years so we can provide consistent support, then deleted.
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your assessment answers, scores, or personal details with third parties for advertising, analytics resale, or any commercial purpose.
The only parties who touch your data are:
- Stripe: For payment processing only. Stripe operates under its own privacy policy and is bound by PCI-DSS standards.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers: Our servers and databases are hosted on reputable US-based cloud infrastructure. These providers access data only to the extent needed to host and secure the service, and they operate under confidentiality agreements with us.
- Law enforcement or courts: If we are legally required by a valid court order or subpoena to disclose information, we will comply. We will notify you where legally permitted to do so before complying.
That is the complete list. No data brokers, no advertising networks, no research partners.
6. Couples Bundle and Partner Data
If you purchase the couples bundle and invite a partner, we collect your partner's email address to send them an invitation link. Your partner must complete their own account registration and consent to this Privacy Policy before their assessment begins. We do not share your individual answers or scores with your partner — we share only the combined, aggregated report that both of you receive simultaneously upon completing your respective assessments.
7. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights over your personal data. We honor the following rights for all users, regardless of location:
- Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: You can ask us to fix inaccurate data.
- Deletion: You can ask us to delete your account and associated data. We will do so within 30 days, subject to the legal retention exceptions noted above.
- Portability: You can ask us to send you your structured score data in a readable format.
- Objection or restriction: You can ask us to stop processing your data in certain ways.
- Withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent to process your data, you can withdraw that consent at any time.
California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information, so the opt-out right is not applicable — but all other CCPA rights apply. To exercise any right, contact us at hello@coupletalk.co. We will respond within 45 days.
EU/UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR): Our lawful basis for processing your data is performance of a contract (to deliver the assessment you purchased) and, for usage data, our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and functional. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have mishandled your data.
To exercise any privacy right, email hello@coupletalk.co with the subject line "Privacy Request." We do not charge a fee for reasonable requests.
8. Refunds
We offer a 14-day, no-questions-asked refund window from the date of purchase. To request a refund, email hello@coupletalk.co with your order email address. We will process refunds through Stripe within five business days. Please note that once a refund is issued, your account and associated data will be scheduled for deletion.
9. Cookies and Tracking
We use only essential cookies — small files that keep you logged in and make the site function. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioral analytics tools that send your data to third parties. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may prevent you from logging in.
10. Security
We use HTTPS encryption on all pages, hashed password storage, and access controls that limit which team members can view account data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable and industry-standard precautions. If we ever discover a data breach that affects your information, we will notify you by email within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
11. Children
CoupleTalk is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at hello@coupletalk.co and we will delete the account promptly.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will email registered users at least 14 days before the changes take effect and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use CoupleTalk after that date means you accept the updated policy.
