Cookie Policy

Effective Date: July 1, 2025

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar tracking tools CoupleTalk uses on coupletalk.co, why we use them, and what choices you have. CoupleTalk is operated by CoupleTalk Inc., a Delaware corporation. If you have questions, email us at hello@coupletalk.co.

We keep this policy short and plain. If something is unclear, please reach out — we would rather explain it in plain English than hide behind legal jargon.

1. What Is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. Cookies help websites remember things — like whether you are logged in, or which page you were on — so you do not have to start over every time. Some cookies disappear when you close your browser (session cookies). Others stay on your device for a set period (persistent cookies).

We also use a few cookie-like tools, such as local storage and session storage, which work in a similar way but are stored slightly differently in your browser. This policy covers all of them.

2. What Cookies Does CoupleTalk Use?

We use only the categories of cookies described below. We do not use advertising cookies. We do not place cookies that track you across other websites.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for coupletalk.co to work. Without them, you cannot log in, complete your assessment, or access your results. We do not need your consent to set these cookies because they are required for the service you have signed up for.

  • Session authentication cookie: Keeps you logged in during your visit. Expires when you close your browser or after 24 hours of inactivity.
  • CSRF security token: Protects your account from cross-site request forgery attacks. This is a standard security measure. Expires at the end of your session.
  • Assessment progress cookie: Saves where you are in the questionnaire so that if your browser refreshes or you briefly lose connection, your answers are not lost. This cookie is deleted as soon as your report is generated.
  • Payment session cookie (Stripe): When you check out, Stripe — our payment processor — sets a short-lived cookie to secure your payment flow. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. CoupleTalk never sees or stores your card details. Stripe's cookie practices are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Functional Cookies

These cookies remember choices you make to improve your experience. They are not strictly essential, but they make the product more convenient.

  • Language and display preference: Remembers any display settings you change. Persists for 90 days.
  • Re-test identifier: CoupleTalk offers a 90-day re-test feature. To support this, we store a lightweight identifier in your browser that connects you to your retained structured scores. Only numerical scores are retained — your free-text answers are permanently deleted once your report is generated and are never stored beyond that point. This cookie expires after 90 days.

Analytics Cookies

We use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to understand how visitors use coupletalk.co in aggregate — for example, which pages are visited most or where people drop off during the assessment. This helps us fix problems and improve the product.

  • Analytics data is collected in aggregate only. We cannot use it to identify you personally.
  • We do not share analytics data with any third party for their own purposes.
  • IP addresses are anonymized before any data is stored.
  • You can opt out of analytics cookies using our cookie preference tool (see Section 4 below) or by using your browser settings.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising network tracking on coupletalk.co.

3. What We Do Not Do

We think it is just as important to be clear about what we do not do with cookies:

  • We do not use cookies to serve you ads, on our site or anywhere else.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share cookie data with data brokers, advertisers, or any third party for marketing purposes.
  • We do not use fingerprinting or other techniques to track you after you leave coupletalk.co.
  • We do not use cookies to store your free-text assessment answers at any point. Those answers are processed in memory during your session and are permanently deleted once your report is generated.
  • We do not combine your cookie data with data purchased from external sources.

4. Your Choices and How to Control Cookies

You have several ways to manage cookies on coupletalk.co.

Cookie Preference Center

When you first visit coupletalk.co, a banner asks for your consent for non-essential cookies (functional and analytics). You can accept all, accept only strictly necessary cookies, or customize your preferences. You can change your mind at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page.

Browser Settings

Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies. Here are links to instructions for the most popular browsers:

Please note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent CoupleTalk from working correctly. You will not be able to complete your assessment or view your results.

5. GDPR Rights (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or an equivalent law gives you specific rights over data collected through cookies. Our legal basis for strictly necessary cookies is legitimate interest (keeping the service secure and functional). Our legal basis for functional and analytics cookies is your consent.

Your rights include:

  • Right to withdraw consent: You can withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time through our Cookie Preference Center.
  • Right to access: You can ask us what cookie-related data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure: You can ask us to delete cookie-linked data we hold.
  • Right to object: You can object to processing based on legitimate interest.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@coupletalk.co. We will respond within 30 days.

6. CCPA Rights (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you additional rights. Because CoupleTalk does not sell personal information and does not share cookie data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, many CCPA provisions around "sale" and "sharing" do not apply to us in practice. However, you still have the right to:

  • Know what personal information (including cookie-derived data) we collect about you.
  • Request deletion of that information.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights — for example, we will not cancel your access or change your price if you opt out of analytics cookies.

To make a CCPA request, email hello@coupletalk.co with the subject line "CCPA Request." We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days.

7. A Note on Refunds and Data Deletion

CoupleTalk offers a 14-day no-questions refund. If you request a refund within 14 days of purchase, we will process it promptly and delete your account data, including any structured scores linked to your re-test cookie. Your free-text answers are already deleted at the moment your report is generated, so there is nothing further to remove for those. Email hello@coupletalk.co to request a refund.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new features or if laws change. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through an in-app notice. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of coupletalk.co after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.

9. Contact Us
